I have the woodcock-johnson listed twice because my child was give it twice, and I am not sure if there is a difference between the two.
The Important ones for you to make sure are done for your child are the WJ-R, VADS, VMI, WISC-III, RCMAS, & PPVT-III. I would ask for a "Functional Behavior Assessment" also. The school will NOT want to do this one because it is:
1. Very expensive 2. Will show the school what you have been saying all along..... her/his "mood" directly impacts her/his ability to learn.
IMHO, personally speaking from experience, wouldn't put too much into the Conners' Scale and Child Behavior Checklist only because these are a direct interpretation of only one persons (her/his teacher)opinion which *I* believe is too narrow, and the results are too general. Believe me you need a well rounded evaluation team. *I* also (personally) wouldn't put that much power in *one* persons hands regarding *MY* child's educational needs. with only these figures. DO NOT let the school "label" her/him as "Behavior Disorder".
Make sure you have a copy of your pdoc's report listing Bipolar disorder & you can expedite the whole process. Don't let the school "buffalo" you into less testing they will try! Insist, VERY LOUDLY, with your Pdoc's (psych doc) report that these need to be done NOW. If you can get the Pdoc (psych doc) to write a statement that your child will benefit from smaller classroom setting with tailored lessons even better!
FYI....check these areas....Broad reading, Broad written and Broad math. Betcha find large discrepancies in the broad written & reading areas with written being the largest. Typically our kids perform well in the math areas (typically not always) something to do with the absolute, linear,(?) thinking patterns.
E-mail me if you have any questions.
